Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch Fernández, was crowned Miss Universe 2025 yesterday in Mexico City following a highly controversial competition.
The 25-year-old emerged victorious, with Miss Thailand, Praveener Singh, finishing as first runner-up and Miss Venezuela, Stephany Adriana Abasali Nasser, placing third.
Her victory followed a public confrontation days earlier, with pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisi sharply criticized Fernández during a preliminary event.
Fernández later addressed the controversy in an Instagram interview, saying she entered the competition with a clear mission: to represent women who fight for social causes and to make her country proud of that commitment.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum praised the new Miss Universe, for using her voice to defend women’s rights during the dispute.
A separate incident occurred during the preliminary evening gown round. Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry walked towards the left side of the stage and stepped off the platform. She was taken out on a stretcher as staff moved quickly to assist her. Pageant co-owner Raúl Rocha later said doctors confirmed she had no broken bones and placed her under observation.
