The single was originally released in July 2021 as a solo record. A remix featuring Ed Sheeran followed in December 2021, significantly boosting its global commercial performance.

The remix expanded the song’s reach across Europe and North America, with streaming numbers rising sharply after its release.
In the United Kingdom, Peru peaked at number two on the Official Singles Chart. The British Phonographic Industry later certified the track multi-platinum. The song also debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 53, and remained on the UK chart for several consecutive weeks.

In France, the track earned diamond certification, highlighting its strong performance in the market.
The single also reached number one on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 100 chart and maintained steady chart placements across multiple European territories during its run.

Fireboy DML released Peru under YBNL Nation in partnership with Empire Distribution.
The collaboration with Ed Sheeran became one of the most commercially successful Afrobeats records of 2021, further cementing Fireboy’s international profile.
