Arsenal were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Brentford on Thursday, missing the opportunity to restore a six-point cushion at the top of the Premier League.
Noni Madueke’s second-half header had given the Gunners the lead, but Keane Lewis-Potter’s powerful equaliser ensured the points were shared.
Brentford Starts Brightly
The hosts began strongly, with goalkeeper David Raya producing a smart save to deny Igor Thiago. Defensive uncertainty from Arsenal, particularly in the absence of William Saliba, nearly handed Brentford an early opener.
Although the visitors gradually settled, they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities before halftime.
Madueke Breaks The Deadlock
Arsenal improved after the interval and took the lead in the 61st minute. Piero Hincapie delivered the ball back across goal, where Madueke rose above Rico Henry to head past Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Gunners had a golden opportunity to double their advantage when Declan Rice set up Viktor Gyokeres, but Michael Kayode produced a crucial last-ditch tackle to keep Brentford in the contest.
Lewis-Potter Restores Parity
Brentford responded 10 minutes later from Kayode’s long throw. The ball was flicked on to the back post, where Lewis-Potter powered a header into the top corner.
Thiago was later denied by a superb tackle from Cristhian Mosquera, while Kelleher produced a save to keep out Gabriel Martinelli at the other end.
Title Race Implications
“We have to do our job and we are going to have to come to all these places, the same as the rest of the teams, and we know how tough it is,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.
Brentford coach Keith Andrew, whose side sits seventh and remains in European contention, added,
“There are 12 games left, but I do promise you we are going to attack every single one of them.”
The result moves Arsenal to 57 points from 26 matches, four ahead of second-placed Manchester City as the title race tightens.
