FIFA has announced a record prize fund of $727 million for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a 50 percent increase on the prize money distributed at the 2022 tournament. The expanded fund reflects the tournament’s new 48-team format and FIFA’s broader revenue growth.
How the Prize Money Will Be Shared
Of the total amount, $655 million will be shared among the 48 participating nations based on performance.
The World Cup winners will earn $50 million, while the runners-up will receive $33 million. Teams eliminated at the group stage will each be paid $9 million.
In addition, every qualified nation will receive $1.5 million to cover preparation and participation costs.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the 2026 tournament as a major financial milestone for global football, reflecting the expanded 48-team format and rising revenues.

Youth and Women’s Football Updates
FIFA’s Council also approved the introduction of festival-style youth tournaments for under-15 players. The competitions will be open to all FIFA member associations, beginning in 2026 with a boys’ tournament, followed by a girls’ edition in 2027.
The Council further confirmed that the 2028 Women’s Club World Cup will be held from January 5 to January 30.
