Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovač has confirmed there will be no sporting sanctions for forward Karim Adeyemi. The decision comes after Karim’s recent fine for illegal possession of weapons.
Kovač said he has “worked through” the issue with the 23-year-old and sees no reason to exclude him from the squad.
Adeyemi was fined €450,000, equivalent to 60 days wages after being charged for possessing a brass knuckle and a taser; items that are illegal under German weapons law. Dortmund issued a statement saying they treated the matter “seriously and confidentially,” but would not take further internal disciplinary action.
The player has publicly apologised, calling the incident a “huge mistake” and saying he deeply regrets acting carelessly. He explained that he ordered a so-called “mystery box” online in early 2024; without realising it would contain prohibited items and insisted that no further wrongdoing will happen.
As part of a resolution, Adeyemi will take part in a social project in Dortmund and conduct training sessions with children.
