UCL- PSV Eindhoven Thrash Liverpool 4-1 At Anfield

PSV Eindhoven delivered a 4-1 victory over a hapless Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Dutch side struck early when Ivan Perišić converted a penalty in the 6th minute after captain Virgil van Dijk handled the ball in the box.

Liverpool responded within ten minutes as Dominik Szoboszlai tapped in the rebound from a saved shot by Cody Gakpo to level the scores in the 16th minute.

However, the second half belonged to PSV. Just after halftime, they regained the lead when Guus Til broke through the defence and slotted home in the 56th minute after a precise through-ball. In the 73rd minute, substitute Couhaib Driouech struck with a calm finish after a ricochet off the post and made the score 3-1. He then completed his brace in stoppage time with a composed close-range finish.

The defeat ended Liverpool’s 14-game unbeaten streak in Champions League group-stage matches at Anfield.  For PSV, the win marks a milestone: their first-ever victory over Liverpool on English soil in European competition.

After the match, head coach Arne Slot admitted the result was a wake-up call. “We went one-nil down, but until halftime I thought we played a very good game,” he said. “But after 45 minutes … five minutes after halftime, we concede again.”

Liverpool now face mounting pressure after losing nine of their last 12 matches across all competitions, their worst 12-game run since the 1953-54 season.
