Tyler, the Creator, was named the Innovator of the Decade at Variety’s ninth annual Hitmakers brunch. Variety, a renowned American entertainment media company, held the event at Nya Studios in Los Angeles.
Variety’s Music Director, Jems Aswad, said that Tyler was awarded for his vertically integrated creative vision, which started with Odd Future and extends into all his creative endeavours, including music, fashion, and film.
Variety executive music editor Jem Aswad, when introducing the awardee in a written statement, noted his ability to redefine multiple creative fields simultaneously, including rap, fashion, and festival curation.
Tyler, the Creator’s eighth studio album, “Chromakopia”, was released on October 28, 2024, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 299,500 album-equivalent units sold in less than a week. The album featured guest appearances from Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, and Lil Wayne, among others. “Chromakopia” received widespread critical acclaim and blends different genres like hip-hop, jazz, and soul.
Tyler, the Creator, released the album ‘Don’t Tap the Glass’ in July 2025 and was named Apple Music’s Artist of the Year for 2025.
Accepting the crystal trophy from Verity Hitmakers, the 34-year-old artiste delivered a boastful acceptance speech: “I’m so grateful that y’all noticed things that I’ve known. I’m very good, I’m very awesome,” he told the audience, which included industry executives and artistes.
He thereafter eulogised his mother, who joined him onstage for an embrace, for her support since he started his career.
Kendrick Lamar was honoured as Songwriter of the Year, and Sabrina Carpenter, Hitmaker of the Year at the award.
