Big L’s fourth posthumous album, “Harlem’s Finest: Return of the King”, is scheduled for release on October 31, 2025. The album will be released through Mass Appeal, the record label founded by Nas.
The album marks a significant entry in Mass Appeal’s “Legend Has It” series, which was announced in April 2025 and features new material from hip-hop artistes like De La Soul and Ghostface Killah.
The official tracklist includes collaborations with Jay-Z, Joe Budden, Joey Bada$$, Method Man, and others. A notable feature consists of the late rapper Mac Miller on the track “Forever”.
Big L, born Lamont Coleman, was a highly acclaimed Harlem rapper known for his lyrical skill in the 1990s. He and Nas were signed to Columbia Records in 1992. He was murdered in 1999 at the age of 24.
Big L’s family confirmed the project is a “full-circle collaboration”. They say the release will address previous issues with the rapper’s catalogue. Earlier tracks were removed from streaming platforms due to problems with mixing, mastering, sample clearances, and producer credits.
Mass Appeal has remastered classic songs, included rare freestyles, and added new material to the album. Big L’s family had previously invited fan participation and encouraged fans to suggest tracks for inclusion, thereby involving the community in the creative process.
The release aims to present polished versions of the rapper’s legacy and introduce his work to new generations.
