Morocco U17 made history at the FIFA U‑17 World Cup Qatar 2025 by thrashing New Caledonia U17 16-0 in Doha on Sunday.
The result stands as the largest margin of victory ever recorded in the tournament’s history.
Morocco surged into the lead early and never let up. By half-time, they were already ahead 7-0. The second half saw an onslaught of goals, with the 15th and 16th arriving deep in stoppage time.
The hosts racked up more than 80 shots, including 29 on target, while New Caledonia mustered only three attempts in total.
Striker Abdellah Ouazane stood out by grabbing a hat-trick. Midfielder Ismail El Aoud also netted twice.
“We wanted to make a statement, and we did exactly that,” said the Morocco coach on the eve of the match. “It’s not just about how many we score, but about what we show the world we are capable of.”
For New Caledonia, the defeat will go down as one of the heaviest ever. Morocco, meanwhile, now set their sights on qualification and momentum as favourites to progress from the group.
