Newcastle United suffered yet another setback in the Premier League as they were outplayed 3-1 by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday. The result leaves the Magpies without a win in their last nine league away matches.
The visitors took an early lead when Harvey Barnes slipped past two defenders and slotted into the net in the 27th minute. But Brentford’s response was sharp.
In the 56th minute, Kevin Schade headed Ding Ouattara’s long throw into the box to level the game. Just over 20 minutes later, the momentum shifted dramatically.
Newcastle full-back Dan Burn was sent off after a second yellow for a foul on Ouattara in the 73rd minute. That led to a penalty, which captain Igor Thiago converted in the 78th minute. He later added a stoppage-time goal to seal the win.
Brentford controlled play throughout, enjoying 54% of possession and more shots than Newcastle. The defeat underscored Newcastle’s contrasting home and away form this season.
The result sees Brentford move up to 12th in the table, while Newcastle remain winless on the road.
