Megan Thee Stallion has ended the longest absence of a rap song from the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 40. The artiste achieved the milestone as her new single, “Lover Girl”, debuted on the chart.

The track arrived at No. 38, breaking a dry spell that had seen no rap entries in the Top 40 for two consecutive weeks. Billboard reports the last such absence occurred in February 1990.

“Lover Girl” posted strong initial metrics in the tracking week ending October 30. The single logged 8.5 million official U.S. streams, registered a radio airplay audience of 1.5 million, and sold 5,000 units.

This single is the rapper’s 21st Top 40 hit on the Hot 100 chart. Her previous hits include three songs that reached No. 1: “Savage” featuring Beyoncé, “WAP” with Cardi B, and her solo track “Hiss”.

The single was released through Hot Girl Productions, an independent label she established in 2023. “Lover Girl” follows her third studio album, “Megan”, released earlier this year.
