Manchester City thrashed Liverpool 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, marking Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th match as a manager.
Erling Haaland failed to convert a penalty in the 13th minute after Giorgi Mamardashvili from Liverpool tripped Jeremy Doku.
Soon after, Erling Haaland headed home in the 29th minute for his 99th Premier League goal for City.
Just before half-time, Nico González netted a deflected long-range effort off Virgil van Dijk to double the lead. In the second half, Jérémy Doku sealed it with a curled strike in the 63rd minute.
Guardiola, reflecting on his milestone, said he could not have asked for a better opponent. “Liverpool have been the biggest rival in this country, and it could not be better,” he told reporters. The victory lifts City into second place with 22 points after 11 games, four behind leaders Arsenal.
For Liverpool, the loss sees them slip to eighth on 18 points and deepens their early-season struggles.
