Liverpool, fielding a weakened side, suffered a 3–0 defeat at Anfield against Crystal Palace in the League Cup fourth round.
The match was level early on, but Palace struck first just before half-time. In the 41st minute, Ismaila Sarr capitalized on a misclear by Joe Gomez and fired a shot past keeper Freddie Woodman. He doubled the lead shortly after the break, converting a smart reverse pass from Yeremy Pino.
Liverpool’s problems worsened in the 79th minute when Amara Nallo was sent off for a foul on Justin Devenny. In the 88th minute, Pino added a third to seal the emphatic win for Palace.
“This is not of Liverpool standards to lose six out of seven,” manager Arne Slot said after the match. “Every Liverpool game is a must-win.”
Slot had made extensive changes to the side, resting most regulars. The defeat is Liverpool’s sixth loss in seven matches across all competitions.
Palace advance to the quarter-finals against Arsenal.
