Alexander Isak Breaks Goal Drought As Liverpool Defeat West Ham_

Liverpool beat West Ham United 2-0 at the London Stadium on Sunday. The result was  sparked by a long-awaited first Premier League goal from newly signed striker Alexander Isak.

Isak, who moved to Liverpool for a record British fee of £125 million from Newcastle in September, ended his Premier League drought in the 60th minute. He coolly side-footed home after a pass from Cody Gakpo found room down the left flank, giving Liverpool a much-needed lead.

West Ham’s afternoon worsened when midfielder Lucas Paquetá was sent off in the 84th minute after two quick yellow cards, leaving the hosts with ten men.

In stoppage time, Gakpo sealed the win with a strike after a scramble in the box, lifting the pressure off Liverpool after a difficult run of form.

Manager Arne Slot said after the match that Isak had shown why Liverpool spent heavily to sign him. “He is a top striker,” Slot said. “This finish was very good. I kept him on just long enough for him to get a goal for the team and himself.”

The win moves Liverpool to eighth position with 21 points.
