Liverpool Held to Goalless Draw by Leeds at Anfield

Liverpool endured frustration on New Year’s Day, drawing 0–0 with Leeds United at Anfield as sections of the home crowd booed at full-time.

Match Highlight

Arne Slot’s side dominated possession but struggled for cutting edge against a disciplined Leeds defence that sat deep and absorbed pressure for long periods.

The hosts created openings but failed to capitalise. Hugo Ekitike headed wide from Jeremie Frimpong’s cross, while Virgil van Dijk also missed the target with a second-half header from a corner. Liverpool’s tempo dipped as frustration grew.

Leeds thought they had claimed a dramatic winner in the 81st minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin chipped Alisson Becker after a through ball from Noah Okafor. The celebrations were short-lived, however, as the goal was ruled out for offside.

Alisson was fortunate earlier after a poor clearance fell to Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu, but the goalkeeper recovered to make the save. Leeds defender James Justin later praised his side’s tactical discipline and collective effort.

Liverpool stay fourth on 33 points after 19 games, while Leeds remain 16th, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
