Tottenham Hotspur surged into the top eight of the Champions League table with a commanding 4-0 home victory over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday. The standout moment came from centre-back Micky van de Ven, who made a breathtaking solo run and finish in the 64th minute.
Forward Brennan Johnson put Spurs ahead in the 19th minute with a composed finish after the Copenhagen keeper rushed out. Five minutes after the break, Wilson Odobert extended the lead, capitalising on more shaky defending from Copenhagen.
In the 64th minute, Van de Ven intercepted the ball on the edge of his own penalty area, surged past multiple defenders in a 95-metre sprint, and slotted home to make it 3-0. Substitute João Palhinha later sealed the scoreline with the fourth goal following another sweeping move.
That goal marked Van de Ven’s sixth of the season and elevated him to the club’s top scorer so far across all competitions.
Despite being reduced to ten men after Johnson’s red card for a late tackle, Tottenham never relinquished control. The win extended their unbeaten home record in European competition to 22 matches.
