Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League at Anfield on Tuesday. The defeat hands the Spanish side their first loss in the competition this season.
The only goal came in the 61st minute. Alexis Mac Allister met a perfectly delivered free kick from Dominik Szoboszlai and powered a header past the stunned Real goalkeeper.
The win lifted Liverpool into sixth place in Group D with nine points after four matches, level on points with Real Madrid.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised his side’s performance, saying, “It was a good game against a really good team … we were better and deserved to win.” He added the atmosphere at Anfield, and his players’ resilience under pressure made the difference.
Real’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made several fine saves and kept the scoreline down. However, the Spanish side failed to convert a single one of their chances.
One subplot to the match involved Liverpool legend-turned-Real defender Trent Alexander‑Arnold returning to Anfield, where he was greeted by jeers and a vandalised mural before the game.
