Yvonne Jegede, actress, movie maker and philanthropist, in an interview with HipTv,shares deep insights into her career journey, personal challenges, and upcoming projects as she marks two decades in the industry.
Reflecting on her longevity, she credited her success to family support, consistency, and strong values. According to her,
“How I stay relevant for 20 years is because I have solid people around me, my parents. To be able to stay around for this long is integrity. And being excellent, giving in your best.”
Addressing stigma and public scrutiny, especially as a divorcee and single mother in the spotlight, Yvonne noted that judgment has become a common experience.
She stated, “Being stigmatised is a natural thing. If you are in the public eye everyone will have an opinion about you. There are times I made a comment and was mocked because I am a single mother and divorcee”
On celebrity philanthropy and whether it is driven by clout, Yvonne insisted that genuine charity cannot be faked.
In her words, “I don’t think so because you cannot pretend what you are doing for a long time. If you’re given the opportunity to be blessed it’s just a natural thing to give back. Empathy is a natural feeling, I don’t think it’s for clout.”
Speaking further with HIPTV about her recent projects, Yvonne revealed her expanding work in community and child support initiatives. She said,
“I have a foundation supporting the academic development of children in Yaba. I have been guiding all 18 children on my own, and the foundation is currently undergoing registration. I am also reaching out to other single parents, encouraging them to support and engage with their own children.”
Yvonne Jegede unveiled her new movie “Malomo,” describing it as a film centred on sickle cell awareness. The project features Femi Jacobs, Mary Lazarus, and Seun Akindele, highlighting her continued commitment to telling socially relevant stories in Nollywood.
As she celebrates 20 years in Nollywood, Yvonne Jegede continues to blend creativity, philanthropy, and authenticity, values she believes will sustain her legacy for years to come.
