The exchange began when Boosie Badazz criticised artistes who choose protective custody while in prison, arguing that entering such custody undermines their credibility and street reputation.
Boosie’s remarks were directed in part at Kodak Black, who has spoken openly about his decision to enter protective custody during previous incarcerations.
In a social media post, Boosie shared a list of rappers he said declined protective custody, including Young Thug. He wrote:
“If you go PC, your fans can never respect your street credibility. It shows weakness.”
Young Thug Defends Protective Custody
Young Thug addressed Boosie’s comments on the social media platform X, defending protective custody as a practical choice.
He said:
“Sometimes you gotta play it safe. PC isn’t about fear, it’s about protecting yourself and your family while inside.”
Thug emphasised that entering protective custody can reduce the risk of harm from other inmates, help avoid additional charges, and shield family members from stress and danger.
Boosie Questions Thug’s Position
Boosie responded again, questioning why Young Thug had not chosen protective custody if he believed it was the safer option.
He added:
“It’s not just about safety, it’s about proving yourself. That’s what counts behind bars.”
Ralo Joins the Discussion
Ralo, who served federal time and was released in 2023, also joined the discussion. He challenged aspects of Young Thug’s account of his own incarceration, questioning whether Thug had experience in a federal prison environment similar to his own.
