Wizkid and Asake Release Joint EP REAL (Vol. 1)

Wizkid and Asake have finally delivered their much-anticipated joint EP REAL (Vol. 1) today, January 23, ending weeks of buildup. The four-track project, featuring Turbulence, Jogodo, Iskolodo, and Alaye, marks the first full collaboration between the two Afrobeats stars and follows the record-breaking success of its lead single, “Jogodo.”

Jogodo’s Record-Breaking Run

The EP rollout began on January 16 with Jogodo, which shattered streaming records on Spotify Nigeria. The track pulled 1.388 million streams on its first day, the highest single-day total for any duo or collaborative release on Spotify Nigeria.

Jogodo debuted at No. 1 on Spotify Nigeria and reached No. 82 on the global chart, posting 1.852 million streams worldwide on launch day.

On its second day, the single added nearly 986,000 streams in Nigeria, pushing it past four million cumulative streams globally. It also topped charts on Apple Music, Deezer, Audiomack, YouTube, and Shazam in Nigeria.

A Collaboration Years in the Making

Wizkid and Asake previously worked together on MMS, a track by Asake featuring Wizkid from his 2024 album Lungu Boy, which later earned a Grammy nomination.

They have also shared major stages, including Asake’s Red Bull Symphonic concert in Brooklyn in 2025. Wizkid first announced REAL (Vol. 1) during an Apple Music Takeover in late 2025, with an initial December release plan that was later delayed. The postponement sparked reactions on X, where some fans jokingly labelled Wizkid “Starboy liar.”

Wizkid’s Historic Streaming Milestone

In January 2026, Wizkid became the first African artiste to surpass 10 billion total streams on Spotify across all credits. Major contributors to that milestone include Drake’s “One Dance” featuring Wizkid, which is nearing 4 billion streams, and “Essence” with Tems, which has surpassed 334 million streams, alongside his solo catalogue and features.

Asake’s Global Rise

Asake has grown into one of Afrobeats’ leading global artistes since his 2022 breakout. His albums Mr. Money With The Vibe (2022), Work of Art (2023), and Lungu Boy (2024) all set multiple streaming records. His Spotify catalogue has now exceeded 2.5 billion streams.

In 2025, Asake headlined Red Bull Symphonic and performed in South Africa for the first time, further expanding his global reach.

What REAL (Vol. 1) Represents

With record-breaking streams, global attention, and two of Afrobeats’ biggest stars aligned, REAL (Vol. 1) is positioned as one of the most significant Nigerian music releases of 2026.
