Singer and songwriter Wizard Chan continues to stand out as one of the few artistes deeply rooted in their cultural and spiritual essence. In an interview with HIPTV, the “Earth Song” crooner opened up about his Ijaw heritage, spirituality, and the meaning behind his self-styled title, “The Native Doctor.”

When asked how he balances preserving his cultural identity while appealing to a wider audience, Wizard Chan said his approach to music goes beyond language or borders.

“Music is a universal language. Even when you don’t understand it, it tells the story. We are unapologetic about it,” he stated.

Speaking on his breakout single, “Earth Song,” which showcased his spiritual side, the singer revealed that its creation was divine and unrepeatable.

“It’s a song you cannot recreate again because it’s not about you,” he explained. “Talking about spirituality, I love God, but I can’t really understand the concept of religion. Just be a good man and love your neighbour as yourself.”

Known for his earthy tone and soulful delivery, Wizard Chan also discussed the inspiration behind calling himself “The Native Doctor”. He described it as more than a stage name; it’s his mission.

“Native Doctor means healer of the soul, someone who does it in a native way. I’m a healer, and I do it in my native tongue. That’s where spirituality comes in,” he said.

With his unique blend of cultural depth and spiritual reflection, Wizard Chan continues to redefine what it means to make Afro-spiritual music unapologetically native, soulful, and healing.
