Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has taken over as Nigeria’s new captain following the retirements of Ahmed Musa and William Troost-Ekong. At 28, Ndidi brings proven leadership to the role. He has previously worn the armband as a stand-in captain. He will now lead the team into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
“It’s a huge responsibility. With the support of the players, everything will go smoothly,” Ndidi said. He added that he has already worked closely with teammates and staff to ensure everyone is aligned.
Tribute To Troost-Ekong And AFCON Outlook
Ndidi praised his predecessor, describing Troost-Ekong as “a great leader”. He said the former captain’s advice remains valuable, even after retirement.
Ndidi will lead a seasoned Super Eagles squad in Group C. Nigeria will open the tournament against Tanzania on December 23. The team will then face Tunisia and Uganda.
