The San Antonio Spurs produced their highest-scoring game of the season on Sunday as they defeated the Houston Rockets 145-120. The dominant offensive display was led by Victor Wembanyama.
Four Spurs players scored 20+ points, led by Wembanyama’s 29. Stephon Castle added 23 points, while De’Aaron Fox recorded 20 points and 10 assists. Keldon Johnson also scored 20.
“When we share the ball like that, it’s hard for teams to keep up,” Wembanyama said after the game.
Spurs Take Control Early
San Antonio seized control in the second quarter, building a 69-57 halftime lead after a step-back three by Wembanyama. The hosts extended the margin early in the third period with a 9-2 burst.
Castle’s three-pointer with 5:45 remaining in the quarter pushed the lead to 27 points as the Spurs carried a 110-94 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Rockets Attempt Late Comeback
Houston briefly trimmed the deficit to 12 early in the fourth quarter. However, they could not get closer as the Spurs pulled away again, leading by as many as 30 points late in the game.
Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson led the Rockets with 23 points each, while Reed Sheppard and Jabari Smith Jr. added 17 apiece.
Strong Shooting Performance
The Spurs shot 58 percent from the field and made 21 of their 40 three-point attempts. The victory extended their winning streak to four games and marked their 15th win in the last 16 games.
Western Conference Standings
The victory improves San Antonio to 47–17, keeping them within 2.5 games of the conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder (50–15) in the race for the top seed in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile, Houston (39–24) slips to fourth in the standings after going 3–3 in its last six games.
