The United States booked their place in the United Cup semi-finals after edging Greece 2–1 in a tense quarter-final clash in Perth on Wednesday.
Gauff Sets The Tone
Coco Gauff gave the Americans the perfect start with a commanding 6-3 6-2 win over Maria Sakkari. The 21-year-old raced into a 5-0 lead in the opening set and, despite a brief Greek fightback, reasserted control to close out the match in one hour and 26 minutes
Tsitsipas Hits Back
Greece responded through Stefanos Tsitsipas, who defeated world number nine Taylor Fritz 6-4 7-5 to level the tie. It was Tsitsipas’s first win over a top-10 opponent since 2024, keeping Greece alive heading into the decisive doubles.
Dramatic Doubles Decider
Less than 30 minutes later, Tsitsipas and Sakkari returned for the mixed doubles against Gauff and Christian Harrison. After splitting the first two sets, the contest went to a match tiebreak. The U.S. surged into a 5-0 lead, were reeled back to 6-6, but Harrison sealed a 4-6 6-4 10-8 victory with a perfectly placed volley through Tsitsipas’s legs.
Reaction
I thought it was a great level throughout, we just played free and aggressive, Gauff said after the win.
The victory sends the United States into the last four as they continue their push for the United Cup title.
