Atlético Madrid has been fined a total of €40,000 by UEFA after fans’ “racist and discriminatory behaviour” during their 4‑0 Champions League defeat at Arsenal last month.
The sanction includes a €30,000 penalty for racist conduct and an additional €10,000 fine imposed as punishment for fans throwing projectiles onto the pitch.
Atlético also received a one‑match away‑fan ban. However, the ban is suspended under a one‑year probation. If no further incidents occur during that period, the ban will not be enforced.
UEFA’s decision follows its conclusion that Atlético supporters made racist gestures, including monkey noises and Nazi salutes, aimed at opposing fans. The incidents were a breach of Article 14 of UEFA’s Disciplinary Regulations.
Atlético are scheduled to return to Champions League action against PSV Eindhoven on December 10. The club currently sits 12th in their group with nine points from five games.
