Paris Saint-Germain crushed Bayer Leverkusen 7–2 at the BayArena in a dominant display. The win marked their sixth consecutive Champions League victory, equalling a club record.
The floodgates burst late in the first half as PSG rattled off three goals in seven minutes. The opening strike arrived in the 7th minute via Willian Pacho, followed by two from Desire Doué before the break.
Drama intensified when Leverkusen captain Robert Andrich was sent off in the 32nd minute for elbowing Doué, and soon after PSG were also reduced to ten men following a red card for Illia Zabarnyi. For PSG, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha all got in on the act as well.
In the 7–2 rout, Leverkusen managed two goals in response: Aleix García converted a penalty (54′) and later added another after the 50th minute, but both were too little, too late.
Leverkusen coach Kasper Hjulmand acknowledged the scale of the defeat: “We are feeling a lot of pain right now,” he said. “It is big numbers and professionally we are hurt. It is not a good feeling.”
Coach Luis Enrique was full of praise for his side: “The feeling is very positive because we played very well,” he said. “We had clear chances and we deserved the victory.”
Leverkusen are now under mounting pressure after seeing their nine-match unbeaten home European streak end. They remain with only two points from three group games, while PSG sit top of the group on a perfect nine.
PSG will face Bayern Munich on November 4 in their next Champions League fixture, while Leverkusen host Benfica on November 5 as they look to bounce back from the heavy loss.
