Tottenham Sack Thomas Frank After Poor League Run

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked manager Thomas Frank after just eight months in charge, the Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday.

The decision follows a dismal run of form that has left Spurs 16th in the table with 29 points from 26 matches, just five points above the relegation zone. Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United marked their 11th league loss of the season.

Board Explains Decision

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we had been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together,” Spurs said in a statement. “However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”

The 52-year-old Dane, who previously established Brentford as a stable Premier League side, struggled to impose a clear identity at Tottenham.

Poor Run Of Form

Pressure had been mounting for weeks, with Spurs winning just seven league matches this season and currently enduring an eight-game winless run, their worst sequence since Juande Ramos was dismissed in 2008.

Home performances have been particularly troubling. Tottenham have suffered seven league defeats at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and managed only two wins in 13 home matches.

Frustration boiled over during the Newcastle defeat, with fans jeering and chanting,

“You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

Supporters also sang the name of former manager Mauricio Pochettino, who led the club to the 2019 Champions League final.

Frank’s relationship with fans had shown signs of strain earlier in the season. He criticised supporters for mocking goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and was photographed holding a coffee cup bearing rivals Arsenal’s crest, a mix-up he later acknowledged.

European Campaign: A Bright Spot

Despite receiving backing in the January transfer window, including the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and the addition of former Liverpool assistant John Heitinga to the coaching staff, domestic results failed to improve.

Spurs did, however, impress in the Champions League, finishing fourth in the 36-team league phase to reach the last 16.

Ultimately, it was their league struggles that cost Frank his job. Tottenham now turn their attention to a crucial North London derby against Arsenal on February 22.
