American actor Timothy Busfield has been edited out of Amazon MGM’s romantic comedy You Deserve Each Other following his arrest on child sexual abuse allegations. The studio confirmed that his scenes were removed during post-production.
Busfield faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse in New Mexico.
Details of the Allegations
The case centres on allegations from two boys who worked on the Fox series The Cleaning Lady. Busfield served on the programme as a director and appeared briefly on screen.
Prosecutors state the alleged incidents occurred during filming in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In You Deserve Each Other, he played Bernie, the father of Meghann Fahy’s character, alongside co-star Penn Badgley.
Investigation and Arrest Timeline
The investigation began in November 2024 after hospital staff raised concerns during a medical visit. In October 2025, the children’s mother filed a formal police report.
A judge issued an arrest warrant on 9 January, and Busfield later surrendered to authorities. A pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for 20 January.
Prior Allegations and Legal History
Busfield denied the allegations during a recorded interview with investigators. Court documents include his statement: “There would never be a weird moment about it.”
The warrant also references earlier allegations, including a 1994 civil case and a 2012 claim that did not result in charges.
