Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two additional counts of rape involving a new alleged victim, bringing the total number of women he is alleged to have raped to four.
The 32-year-old Ghana international had previously pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape against two women and one count of sexual assault relating to a third woman.
New Allegations
The two new charges relate to alleged offences in 2020 that were first reported to police last August. They follow a fresh investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Partey is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 13 March for an initial hearing on the new charges.
Previous Court Proceedings
He was granted conditional bail at Southwark Crown Court in September after entering not guilty pleas to the original charges.
The earlier alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, during his time as an Arsenal player. Partey was formally charged last year, four days after his contract with the north London club expired at the end of June.
Career Background
Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid for £45.3 million in October 2020 and made 130 Premier League appearances for the club.
He currently plays for Spanish side Villarreal on a one-year contract.
His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has previously stated that he “denies all the charges against him” and welcomed “the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
