England striker Tammy Abraham has completed an £18.25 million move back to Aston Villa from Besiktas. He returns to the club where he enjoyed a prolific loan spell earlier in his career.
Deal Details
The 28-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Villa. Abraham moves back to England for the first time since leaving Chelsea for Roma in 2021.
He had been on loan at Besiktas from Roma, but the Turkish club activated their £11m buy option this week. This allowed them to sell the player at a profit to Villa for a reported transfer price of 21 million euros.
Emery’s Longstanding Target
Villa manager Unai Emery had been keen to add attacking depth behind Ollie Watkins. He has long admired Abraham, who scored 26 goals in 40 games during a loan spell at Villa in the 2018-19 season.
“Some clubs play a big part in your journey and stay with you,” Abraham said. “I’m back at Aston Villa, ready to work and give everything.”
Squad Movements And League Context
As part of the agreement, teenage midfielder Yasin Ozcan will move to Besiktas. Abraham could make his second Villa debut against Brentford on Sunday.
Villa are third in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Arsenal. Abraham returns after spells with Roma, AC Milan and Besiktas, having scored 39 goals in 120 appearances for Roma.
