Super Eagles Resolve Bonus Stand-Off Ahead Of Crucial World Cup Play-Off

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have ended their training boycott and resolved a long-standing dispute over unpaid bonuses, team captain William Troost-Ekong said on Wednesday.

The matter had erupted when the squad and coaching staff refused to train in Rabat on Tuesday.

The boycott stemmed from unpaid allowances dating back to 2019, including rewards for reaching the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and qualifying for the World Cup play-offs.

Troost-Ekong confirmed the stand-off had been settled, writing on social media: “Issue resolved. We are together and, as before, focused on the games ahead! ”

The dispute had raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s readiness as they prepare to face Gabon in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Africa play-offs, scheduled for Thursday in Rabat.

While the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) did not comment publicly, sources suggest a deal was reached between players and officials late Tuesday.
