The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on 22 January unveiled the nominations for its 98th Oscars award scheduled for 15 March in Los Angeles.
Record-Breaking Recognition
Sinners emerged as the most recognised film of the year with sixteen nominations. The count sets a new record in Academy history. The film received nominations across major categories, including Best Picture and Best Director for Ryan Coogler. Michael B. Jordan earned a Best Actor nod. Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku were nominated in the best supporting actor and actress categories.
Speaking on the record-breaking feat, producer Ryan Coogler said:
“I did not have any expectations when it came to the recognition of what they did. For me, people just showing up to the movies and having a good time, that would’ve been enough.”
