Actor and movie producer Rotimi Salami, recognised for his roles in both Yoruba and English Nollywood films, has built a steady presence in cinema over the years, earning acclaim for romantic and dramatic performances.
In an interview with HipTV, he discussed his career, personal life, and latest film project, “Kilanko: The Invisible Child”.
When asked what personal rule has guided his steady rise in Nollywood, Salami said, “Passion, dedication, and love for God.” He explained that these values have shaped his career decisions and sustained his consistency.
Completing Allwell Ademola’s Vision
Salami revealed that “Kilanko” carried extra emotional weight, as the late Allwell Ademola, his close friend and the film’s director, passed away during production.
He reflected on the challenge of completing the project while honouring her vision.
“I can’t fill in the space all by myself, starting with the weight on me is too much; it’s not my thing,” he said.
Production began in 2023 and was shot in stages over three years.
“Kilanko is a true life story, bits and pieces of happenings around me,” Salami explained. “I wanted to give it my all, and shooting in bits took this long. That’s why it took three years.”
Cast And Production Decisions
Salami highlighted the ensemble cast, including Ibrahim Chatta, Olaromi Fakunle, Allwell Ademola, Saheed Balogun, Aliu Gafar, Jumoke Salami, Cute Abiola, and Zainab Bakare.
He also revealed that a scene involving nudity was removed from the film.
“It has to do with nudity; this is also the Ramadan period,” he explained.
Addressing Public Speculation
Salami addressed public rumours linking him romantically with the late Ademola.
“Misconception is just a popular word… if I said yes or no, you will believe me. That one is no longer news to me,” he said.
Balancing Family And Fame
On balancing family life with his career, Salami emphasised the importance of choosing a supportive partner.
“I knew the kind of partner I wanted. I also wanted a partner who will understand this kind of job,” he said.
He also expressed interest in expanding into action roles.
“I think action film, a bit of fighting and shooting. I featured in a couple of films, and I want to do more,” he revealed.
Release Date
“Kilanko: The Invisible Child” is scheduled to premiere on March 1, with nationwide cinema screenings beginning March 6.
Salami noted that the release is Ramadan-friendly, ensuring audiences can watch comfortably during the period. Rotimi Salami’s career reflects a balance of consistent screen presence and growing behind-the-scenes creativity.
