Ghana is set to become the centre of Africa’s film and creative industry this December as the first edition of the Raffa (REFFA) Awards 2025 takes place in Accra.
The Regal Film Festival & Awards is a pan-African platform established to celebrate excellence, innovation, and cultural storytelling in African cinema. It honours individuals and productions shaping Africa’s cinematic landscape while fostering collaboration, industry growth, and cultural exchange.
Ahead of the awards, Executive Director Selassie Ibrahim paid a respectful visit to the Ga Mantse Palace, the traditional ruler (king) of the Ga people in Accra, reinforcing the event’s commitment to cultural heritage and strengthening ties with traditional leadership.
Activities will run from December 10 to 12 with film screenings of over 30 African films, panel discussions, professional masterclasses, and a Culture Night celebrating African heritage.
The awards night gala will be held on December 13 at The Palms Convention Center, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, with the red carpet starting at 6:30 pm.
REFFA 2025 will recognise outstanding talents across several categories, including Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male and Female), Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Achievement in Visual Effects, Production Design, and Screenplay, among others.
Nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role include Linda Ejiofor Suleiman (To Love and To Protect), Fat Toure, Osas Ighodaro and Maud Guerard (3 Cold Dishes), Evelyn Atim (Karamoja), Uche Montana (Test of Faith), Jackie Appiah (Taste of Sin), and Efe Irele (My Mother Is a Witch).
In the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male) category, nominees are Desmond Elliot (Unknown Soja), Wale Ojo (3 Cold Dishes), Odong Martin (Karamoja), Clemento Suarez (Last Stop), and Alele Sayub (Janani: The Last Stand).
For Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female), the nominees include Roselyn Ngissah (Red Carpet), Amelie Mbaye (3 Cold Dishes), Mercy Aigbe (My Mother Is a Witch), and Bimbo Ademoye (Boss Down).
Nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role are Ricky Adelayitar (The Fisherman), Ikechukwu Onunaku (Dead Tide), Peter Odeke (Janani: The Last Stand), James Gardiner (Taste of Sin), and Saani Ahmed (Look).
In the Achievement in Visual Effects category, nominated films include 3 Cold Dishes, The Fisherman, Dead Tide, and The Forbidden Mirror.
For Achievement in Production Design, the nominees are 3 Cold Dishes, My Father, Dead Tide, Scar, The Fisherman, and Janani: The Last Stand.
Nominees in the Achievement in Screenplay category include Janani: The Last Stand, 3 Cold Dishes, The Funeral of Kwadae, The Fisherman, Last Stop, and My Mother Is a Witch. More categories and nominees are expected to be unveiled ahead of the awards night.
REFFA is organised by the REFFA organisation as an independent pan-African platform, with Selassie Ibrahim serving as executive director and chief convener.
