Reece James has committed his long-term future to Chelsea FC after signing a new contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032, the club confirmed on Friday.
Chelsea Academy Journey
A lifelong Chelsea supporter, James joined the club’s academy at the age of six and progressed through the ranks at the Cobham Training Centre.
He made his Under-18 debut while still a schoolboy and played a key role in a treble-winning youth team before signing his first professional contract in March 2017.
Breakthrough and Loan Success
The England international later gained senior experience during a loan spell at Wigan Athletic, where he was named both Player of the Season and Players’ Player.
He returned to break into Chelsea’s first team ahead of the 2019/20 season and scored on his debut in a EFL Cup victory over Grimsby Town.

Confirming the new deal, Chelsea sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart praised the defender’s leadership and commitment to the club.
“He knows what it means to wear this badge, and having committed his long-term future to Chelsea, we’re excited to continue this journey with him,” they said.
Trophy Success and Future Ambitions
James has made more than 200 appearances for Chelsea and helped the club win the UEFA Champions League in 2021, along with two FIFA Club World Cup titles.
Speaking after signing the extension, James expressed his excitement about continuing his journey with the club.
“I am over the moon to have extended my contract. Chelsea means so much to me,” he said.
“I have always said I want my peak years to be here, and I truly believe we have everything it takes to build on our previous successes.”
