Organisers of the upcoming boxing match between Portable and Carter Efe have offered insights into the rationale behind the event.
Speaking with HipTV, Ezekiel Adamu, promoter of “Chaos in the Ring”, explained that the initiative combines entertainment and professional boxing while promoting peaceful rivalry.
Promoting Peace Through Sport
Adamu noted that one of the professional bouts represents a symbolic contest between fighters from the Ijaw and Itsekiri communities, encouraging them to settle differences through sport rather than conflict.
The winner of the professional bout between the Ijaw and Itsekiri fighters will be rewarded by being named a Peace Ambassador for the Niger Delta region, reinforcing the event’s message of unity through sport.
Blending Entertainment and Boxing
Adamu also addressed the inclusion of celebrity fights in the event, explaining that the goal is to merge entertainment and sports to increase the popularity of boxing.
He added that the fight card will feature both celebrity and professional bouts, creating a platform that combines sporting competition with entertainment value.
Community Support Through Boxing
Adamu further explained that the organisers are committed to supporting communities through the platform.
He referenced a previous event involving Speed Darlington, after which scholarships were awarded to 20 students through the Ring of Hope Foundation.
According to him, the organisers aim to ensure that each event contributes positively to the community.
Nigeria Boxing Board of Control Highlights Safety Measures
Also speaking with HipTV, Rafiu Ladipo, President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, addressed the safety regulations guiding the bouts.
He explained that although the Carter Efe vs Portable contest is a celebrity fight and not a professional bout recorded in official boxing statistics, the same safety standards still apply.
According to Ladipo, every fighter must undergo medical checks including blood pressure examinations, physical assessments, and medical certification before stepping into the ring.
Fighters See Opportunity and Symbolism
Professional fighter Godday Appah described the upcoming contest as one of the biggest opportunities of his career.
He explained that the fight carries symbolic significance for the Niger Delta region and represents a message of peace and unity.
Another professional boxer on the card, Ezra Arenyeka, also addressed the increasing popularity of celebrity boxing. He emphasised the importance of discipline and proper preparation for anyone entering the ring and encouraged celebrities interested in boxing to take training seriously.
Press Conference and Event Details
Entertainment industry figures including Bankulli and Soso Soberekon were present at the press conference held at the Balmoral Event Centre.
The press conference was hosted by Victor Godfrey and concluded with a question-and-answer session followed by a face-off between the professional fighters, who later embraced in a show of sportsmanship.
