Poland booked their place in the United Cup semi-finals after defeating hosts Australia 2–1 on Friday, setting up a last-four showdown with defending champions the United States.

Australia responded in the men’s singles through Alex de Minaur, who edged Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a tense encounter. De Minaur showed remarkable resilience, saving nine break points in the opening set to keep Australia alive.
“I just had to fight him off from the first point to the last,” de Minaur said. “It was a huge mental effort. I had some dark thoughts in my head, but I’m glad I was able to bounce back.”
With the tie level, the mixed doubles proved decisive. Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski overpowered Storm Hunter and John-Patrick Smith 6-4, 6-0 to seal Poland’s passage into the semi-finals.
