Pharrell Williams has issued a formal response following a lawsuit filed against him by long-time collaborator Chad Hugo. The statement comes days after the legal action became public.
The response was released through Williams’s legal representatives, who confirmed that a full accounting review is already underway.
Legal Response and Accounting Review
In the statement, Williams’s representatives said that,
“a standard accounting review is already in progress”
Adding that,
“the lawsuit is premature as there may not even be a dispute between the parties.”
They further stated that,
if the review determines that money is owed, the appropriate party will make payment.
Hugo alleges that Williams withheld royalties connected to their work as The Neptunes and as members of N.E.R.D. He claims Williams engaged in self-dealing, concealed material information, and diverted revenues owed to him, describing the actions as wilful, fraudulent, and malicious.
Case Status and Career Update
The statement marks Williams’s first public response since the lawsuit was filed. The legal action references years of requests for financial documentation and remains before a California court, with further proceedings yet to be scheduled.
Outside the courtroom, Williams remains active professionally. He is set to perform at the 2026 Grammy Awards alongside Clipse and is nominated for three awards.
On January 23, 2026, Williams was also honoured in Paris, receiving the rank of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, France’s highest national distinction.
