Pedro Neto has been fined £70,000 and handed a one-match suspension following misconduct during Chelsea FC’s defeat to Arsenal FC in the Premier League earlier this month.
Red Card During Arsenal Defeat
The Portuguese winger was sent off in the 2–1 loss after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession.
Neto was first booked for dissent following an Arsenal goal before picking up a second caution three minutes later for a foul on Gabriel Martinelli.
FA Disciplinary Action
The Football Association said the disciplinary action followed further misconduct after the dismissal in the 70th minute.
The governing body said in a statement:
“It was alleged that the player acted in an improper manner by failing to leave the pitch promptly and/or using abusive words towards the match official/s following his dismissal,”
Suspension and Upcoming Match
Neto admitted the charge and will miss Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League match against Newcastle United on Saturday.
The red card was Chelsea’s ninth across all competitions this season.
Possible UEFA Disciplinary Action
The 26-year-old is also facing disciplinary proceedings from UEFA after an incident involving a ball boy during Chelsea’s 5–2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
