Late Nottingham Forest Draw Dents Manchester City Title Charge

Nottingham Forest Hold Manchester City 2-2 in Title Race Blow

Nottingham Forest snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw at Manchester City on Wednesday as Elliott Anderson’s late equaliser dealt a blow to City’s title hopes. City, who dominated much of the contest, twice took the lead but were unable to hold on.

City Strike First at the Etihad

City opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Antoine Semenyo volleyed home Rayan Cherki’s cross from the centre of the box. This is his seventh goal in 12 games since arriving in January.

Forest threatened through Morgan Gibbs-White before the midfielder produced a clever back-heeled finish from close range in the 56th minute. He slipped the ball through Ruben Dias’ legs and past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Rodri Restores City’s Lead

Rodri restored City’s control six minutes later, heading home from a corner for his first Premier League goal of the season.

Forest refused to fold, and Anderson stunned the Etihad Stadium in the 76th minute with a curling strike from 25 yards.

Late Drama and Missed Chances

City piled forward in the closing stages and finished with 21 shots to Forest’s nine, with fans urging players to shoot whenever they approached the box. Savinho came closest to snatching victory with the final kick of the game, only for defender Murillo to clear his close-range effort off the line.

The hosts also appealed for penalties on two occasions: when Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels collided with Erling Haaland in the box, and later when Rodri was struck in the leg while shooting. However, VAR ruled against both claims.

Managers React as Title Race Tightens

Forest nearly stole all three points when Ryan Yates met Anderson’s late corner but fired wide, leaving manager Vitor Pereira satisfied with the result.

“A tough game, but with a lot of personality from my team,” he said. “It’s important to come here and prove we can get points everywhere.”

Impact on the Premier League Table

The result leaves Pep Guardiola’s side seven points behind leaders Arsenal F.C. after 29 games, albeit with a game in hand. Forest remain just above the relegation zone in 17th place with 28 points.
