Nigeria and Egypt confirmed their places at the upcoming World Para Table Tennis Championships following a strong showing at the 2025 ITTF Africa Para Table Tennis Championships in Giza, Egypt.
The tournament, which doubled as a qualifier saw Nigeria edge out the hosts in the medal standings.
The championships featured elite athletes from across the continent including Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast. It also doubled as a qualifying event for the 2026 World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.
Nigeria topped the overall medals table with six golds, while Egypt finished close behind with five golds.
Key performances for Nigeria included Ogunkunle Isau winning the Men’s Singles Classes 4–5, while pairs like Adesope Abiola Wali and Lawal Kehinde secured mixed doubles gold.
By the end of the tournament, eight qualification spots for Bangkok 2026 had been claimed, with more slots set to be allocated next year based on the African rankings in accordance with ITTF regulations.
Tournament director Amr Fahmy praised the event’s competitiveness and emphasized the growing quality of para-table tennis across Africa. “We are hopeful that future editions will attract even greater participation, which will further enhance the growth and stature of this championship,” Fahmy said.
