Rapper Nas has confirmed the release of his collaborative album with DJ Premier. The album, titled Light-Years, contains fifteen tracks and arrives on 12 December 2025 under Mass Appeal Records.
It includes one guest appearance from AZ on the track My Story Your Story. A third instalment of N.Y. State of Mind also appears on the album.
Nas explained that two ideas discussed many years ago finally reached completion during this year’s sessions. He stated, “I’m going to say at least two of those ideas happened on this album.” He added that earlier attempts never progressed but were revived with renewed clarity for Light-Years.
Light-Years conclude Mass Appeal’s Legend Has It… series, which featured new releases from various artistes. The campaign includes projects from Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Mobb Deep, De La Soul, Big L, and Slick Rick.
Nas described the atmosphere surrounding the album thus: “It’s 1995 all over again,” while adding that “Sometimes I feel like 2025 has that feeling.” He spoke about the lasting strength of earlier recordings and their continued influence across contemporary music. He emphasised Slick Rick’s creative importance, identifying him as a pioneering hip hop artiste whose work shaped many artistes who developed during that defining era.
He also highlighted the intention behind the series and its meaning for long-standing contributors. He stated, “This series is to encourage and inspire hip hop and remind us all of the pureness of hip hop.” He added that the releases continue representing artistes no longer present while maintaining visibility for their earlier work.
