Morocco made history on Sunday by winning the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time. The North Africans defeated six-time champions Argentina 2-0 in the final in Santiago.
Striker Yassir Zabiri opened the scoring with a free-kick in the 12th minute and doubled the lead 17 minutes later with a close-range finish, sealing the win for the North Africans.
Argentina dominated possession (75.2 %) but only managed three shots on target, whereas Morocco remained compact and clinical, recording four shots on goal and three saves.
The triumph marked the first global title at any age-group level for Morocco and made them only the second African nation to win the tournament after Ghana in 2009.
Argentina’s final appearance ended in defeat for the second time in their history in this competition, their previous loss coming to Brazil in 1983.
Morocco’s youth side completed a remarkable run topping their group and then eliminating the USA and France to culminate in the Santiago triumph.
