Morocco to Appeal CAF Sanctions After AFCON Final

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has confirmed it will appeal sanctions imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents during the 2025 AFCON final against Senegal.

The federation described the ruling as “excessive and unfair” and said it has initiated the CAF judicial process.

CAF Disciplinary Ruling Explained

CAF’s Disciplinary Committee announced the sanctions on January 29, citing unruly conduct that disrupted the final. It rejected Morocco’s protest over Senegal’s temporary withdrawal from the pitch.

The FRMF argued the sanctions failed to reflect the full context of events, insisting Morocco’s conduct was misinterpreted.

Fines and Suspensions Handed Down

Under the ruling, Senegal’s FA was fined approximately $615,000. Head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw received a five-match suspension, while Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were banned for two matches.

Morocco’s FA was fined roughly $315,000. Captain Achraf Hakimi and Ismaël Saibari were also handed two-match suspensions and fines.

Historical Precedent

The dispute revives memories of 2015, when the FRMF successfully overturned CAF sanctions at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
