Harlem rapper Max B has been released from prison after serving 16 years. The rapper, whose real name is Charly Wingate, was released on 9 November 2025. His release brings an end to one of the most notable prison sentences involving a hip-hop artist.

Max B was convicted in 2009 for robbery and a related fatal shooting. He initially received a seventy-five-year sentence but later secured a plea deal in 2016 that reduced his charge to aggravated manslaughter. This adjustment lowered his sentence to twenty years, making him eligible for release this year.

During his imprisonment, Max B’s musical influence remained visible in hip-hop. His “wave” sound, known for its melodic and street-inspired style, shaped a generation of artists. French Montana and several others credited him for inspiring their approach to rhythm and vocal delivery.

Upon his release, Max B reportedly returned home quietly without public appearances. Associates revealed he had continued writing while incarcerated and now intends to record new music. No official project has been announced, but fans expect fresh material soon.
