Arsenal’s grip on the Premier League title race loosened on Sunday after a 3–2 home defeat to Manchester United.
Stunning second-half goals from Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha sealed United’s first league win at the Emirates since 2017. The result leaves Arsenal four points clear at the summit instead of restoring a seven-point cushion between second-placed Manchester City.
Match Turning Points
The hosts had appeared in control when Lisandro Martinez turned the ball into his own net in the 29th minute. However, a costly error from Martin Zubimendi gifted Bryan Mbeumo an equaliser eight minutes later. United carried that momentum into the second half as Dorgu rifled in a volley in the 50th minute. Arsenal substitute Mikel Merino briefly revived hope by poking home from a corner in the 84th minute.
However, Cunha had the final word. He advanced from midfield and curled a superb right-footed strike past David Raya from distance. This sparked wild celebrations among the away supporters.
Reaction and League Impact
“You have to give credit to Manchester United,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. “We gave them a goal which is unusual and painful, then two brilliant moments with incredible goals. We were not at our best and paid the price.”
The defeat was Arsenal’s first home loss in all competitions this season. The result also extends their league winless run to three matches.
Arsenal now sit on 50 points from 23 games, with City and Villa both on 46. United’s resurgence continued as they moved up to fourth on 38 points.
