Manchester City have completed the signing of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, with manager Pep Guardiola confirming the club had tracked the Ghana international “for a long time”.
The 26-year-old is expected to be included in City’s squad for Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Exeter City.
Pep Guardiola Praises Versatility
Guardiola highlighted Semenyo’s flexibility and Premier League pedigree, describing him as a player City have admired for years.
“Everyone knows his qualities,” Guardiola said. “He played extraordinarily at Bournemouth and can play on both sides—right and left—he uses both legs unbelievably. As a striker, he can play as well, with his pace, and he knows the Premier League.”

British media reported that City triggered Semenyo’s £65 million release clause amid strong interest from several Premier League rivals. Guardiola stressed the importance of timing, saying the club moved decisively to secure the winger at the right stage of his career.
“We needed to reinforce for the next years, and that’s why the club made the gesture to take him at the perfect age. So the best years are to come,” he added.
Strong Season Form and Semenyo Reaction
Semenyo arrives at the Etihad Stadium after an impressive campaign with Bournemouth, having scored 10 league goals and registered three assists this season. His tally places him as the Premier League’s third-highest scorer. City currently sits six points behind leaders Arsenal after 21 matches.
The winger said the move represented the ideal next step in his career.
“They have set the highest of standards, and it’s a club with world-class players and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep,” Semenyo said. “To be at this club at this stage of my career is perfect for me. It’s a real privilege to be here; my best football is yet to come.”

City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, said Semenyo made his intentions clear from the outset.

Describing the winger as a player with “two great feet, pace, power, a habit of influencing games, and real room for growth.”
