Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has publicly apologised after confronting a cameraman following his team’s 2–1 defeat at Newcastle United.
The incident occurred when Guardiola lost his composure after the 2-1 loss at St James’ Park. He confronted a pitch-side cameraman and grabbed his headset in frustration. He admitted his behaviour was unacceptable, saying he feels “embarrassed and ashamed” by his actions.
Guardiola explained that his frustration came from his strong desire to defend his team. “I am who I am … I make huge mistakes,” he said. “What is for sure, I defend my team and my club.”
He also apologised “after one second” to the cameraman, underlining that his reaction was not premeditated but came from emotion.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen, Guardiola said the incident will not define him: “Even with 1,000 games I am not a perfect person and I make mistakes.”
