Manchester City eased to a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Fulham on Wednesday to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Antoine Semenyo starred for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring once and providing an assist as City wrapped up the contest with a dominant first-half display at the Etihad Stadium.
First-Half Dominance Seals The Win
City opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Semenyo capitalised on a defensive mix-up. Fulham midfielder Sander Berge inadvertently diverted a cross toward his own goal, allowing the January signing to poke home from close range. The goal was Semenyo’s fifth in eight games since arriving from Bournemouth.
Moments later, the hosts doubled their advantage following a flowing team move. Semenyo slipped a precise pass behind the Fulham defence to Nico O’Reilly, who calmly lifted his finish over goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Erling Haaland extended the lead to 3-0 in the 39th minute, drilling a low shot into the bottom-right corner for his 22nd league goal of the season.
Fulham Struggle To Respond
Fulham’s best opportunity came through Harry Wilson, who forced a save from City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during a rare counterattack.
However, the visitors struggled to cope with City’s relentless attacking play in a one-sided opening period. The tempo dropped after the break, with both sides managing just one shot on target in a subdued second half.
City were rarely troubled as they comfortably saw out the result.
Title Race Tightens
The victory moves second-placed City to 53 points from 26 matches. Arsenal remain top on 56 points with a game in hand ahead of their trip to Brentford.
Fulham stay 12th in the table with 34 points.
