Liverpool ended a four-game winless streak with a 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The victory came on Wednesday and featured a goal from Hugo Ekitiké against his former club.
Frankfurt struck first in the 26th minute through Rasmus Kristensen’s deflected effort. His shot beat Giorgi Mamardashvili and rolled in off the far post.
Liverpool equalised soon after. In the 35th minute, Ekitiké latched onto a long pass from Andy Robertson. He sprinted from halfway and calmly sent the ball through Michael Zetterer’s legs.
“I knew he would open his legs, so I put it between them,” Ekitiké said about his composed finish against his old side. He did not celebrate the goal, showing respect to Frankfurt. The striker recently joined Liverpool for £69 million.
Liverpool went ahead before halftime. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté both scored quick headers from corners. Those goals came in the 38th and 43rd minutes as Frankfurt’s defence struggled.
In the second half, Liverpool stayed dominant. Cody Gakpo scored in the 66th minute to make it 4-1. Four minutes later, Dominik Szoboszlai added the fifth goal.
Liverpool finished with 14 shots on target, while Frankfurt managed just one. “It’s a win and something to build on,” Van Dijk said afterward. The Reds moved up to 10th in their Champions League group with six points. Frankfurt, meanwhile, dropped to 22nd.
